What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I have learned quite a fair bit from my Audience feed back from the finished music video. Me and my group were given good constructive criticism as well as recommendations as to what to do if we ever do an exercise like this again. The audience feedback was specifically used for the planning and construction stages of our music video, magazine advert and the digipak.
The Focus Groups
in my group, we first had to chose a song that wasn't copyright, owned by a record label and the band/artist had to be unsigned and we got songs from the focus group. We short listed quite a few songs that fitted into the categories and we had a listen to some songs such as "Your Girlfriend sucks" by a band called Real Big Fish and "Home" by an artist called Gabrielle Aplin. We came to a conclusion and chose the song "Wave of Popular Feeling" by an unsigned band by the name of Groundswell.
We also did a bit of pre music video planning and decided to split screens when constructing the music video to show the audience the different instruments we were playing and we thought it was best to have everyone on one screen and that was the best way to do that. The idea was also noticed when we watched a music video from "The Pigeon Detectives" - This is an Emergency. We wanted feedback from our peers, friends and classmates and the majority loved the idea and thought it was "original". We knew this would only work if the shots were done properly and the camera was steady. Our focus group also showed us how to edit the video and create the split screens and we chose to split the screens into 4 for the four members of the band.
Construction stages
In the Construction Stage, we made a Rough Cut of our Music Video so that we could get feedback about our general idea for our video. We were told that the video was boring and slow due to the lack of variety. We fixed this problem by making the screens switch round on occasion either randomly or in an anti-clockwise order to the beat of the song. Sometimes the same screen would appear in all four corners. We also sped up the pacing of the editing to make it less boring.
We also got feedback from the teachers and other students for our finished Music Video. They pointed out a few last-minute small issues within in the video so we could correct them on Adobe Premier Pro and finally upload the video onto Youtube.
We got feedback for our Magazine Advert and our digipak and the audience said that it was "too plain" during production becuase of the black and white visuals. we made sure to fix this problem by changing the layout of the actual digipak by using. The digipak was originally seen as "too plain" during production due to the black-and-white visuals. We fixed this problem by making the layout of the Digipak checkered with these colours to make it more unique and we also used this same idea for the Magazine Advert.
For the Evaluation Stage, we recieved alot of feedback through many different ways including questionnaires that we made, putting questions on the Survey Monkey site and one member of our group made a post on Facebook of our video and asked what his friends thought. The friends commented and liked showing that the saw it and was willing to give opinions and constructive critisism.

Editing the Music Video
Editing the Music Video
We did all of our music video editing on the software Adobe Premier Pro. We made sure that the video had four screens of the four members of the band and their instruments. This meant that we had to have 4 timelines and edit them at the same time constantly instead of 1. The beat of the song affected the music video as the editing and the shots were changed at a steady pace to the song.
Above is the timelines of our video, as you can clearly see we have more than one. In order to edit to the beat, we had to put markers up in order to make things easier. This took up a lot of time and we wanted to make every thing perfect.
In order to make the four screens play at the same time, we played with the settings and managed to put four windows in different corners and evened them out.

The Album exercise was something I used to help make an album cover for my music video. I needed practice so I used a site that simplified making an album cover.
I first had to get a name for a band, I chose "Executive Search" as i clicked a link called 'Randomly-Generated-Wikipedia-Article' that gave me a random name for my band.

I then needed a title for my album. I found a link to a site that was a page of random quotes from celebraties and films.

For the album cover image I used the website "Flickr" and I downloaded an image, in which the person who put up the image has allowed people to access and download it. I put it into photoshop, added text with fonts from "Dafont" and manipulated the image. The final product of the picture was this:

We collected audience feedback through many different ways including holding focus groups, asking people what they thought of the music video on social networks and in person and what liked and disliked.
The focus group when we discussed ideas for things like the song we were going to use and what we were going to do for the music video.

The introduction of music videos on MTV meant that artists now had the opportunity to create an image of themselves to present to the public and gain a following. These videos gave artists the ability a convey a more comprehensive message to their audience to create this image and make a brand of themselves.These videos are powerful in which they can make or break a single or a new artist's career as a whole.

This "image" can be created using a clever formation of colours, image, text or fonts, etc. Products such as music videos, websites, Twitter or other social media accounts, digipaks and magazine adverts, etc, must promote clearly one image of the artist across all elements. For example, The Spice Girls were all advertised individually with the different personalities for each of the girls in their stage names, e.g. Mel B = Scary Spice, Emma Bunton = Baby Spice, etc.
Changing Landscape
Though the broadcasting of music videos on Television has declined, the music video is still the most powerful and popular way to promote music.
With improvements in web-video technology, music videos have maintained their dominance through the Internet to promote music. Online platforms like websites and social media, e.g. Twitter, must be linked clearly with image of the artist. For example, a tweet on Twitter can get as many people following as a TV channel can reach in only a matter of minutes.
This makes the Internet a dominant force in promoting music.

Synopsis:
In this
music video for our version of Wave of Popular feeling by Groundswell we are
going to have multiple screens that will change throughout the video. The
four screens will at some point show different angles of the drummer,
different angles of the singer, different angles of the lead guitarist etc.
The four screens will also show the four musicians holding and playing their
different instruments in time with the song.

Key Genre Conventions:
In the video
we will also be doing similar things to real life music videos and use skills
learned from studying music directors and theorists such as Andrew Goodwin.
He spoke about screens within screens and close ups, in our video we will be
zooming into instruments and using close up techniques on our faces. We will
also be putting screens in screens and lay them out professionally.
